FAQs

Why did you choose this place & this activity?

Throughout the past couple of years, my time in this space and many others like it have been so vital to my physical, mental, and spiritual health, and I wanted to gather the people who’ve shown me so much love over the years to feel the magic of Kaloko.

I love you, but what am I getting myself into?

I deliberately chose this place because it’s both special to me and the work is lighter and accessible to most folks (hikers, non-hikers, and non-green thumbs are all welcome!).

We’re going to spend our time removing invasive plants (aka weeding), planting native plants, moving materials like cut mangroves, and learning the moʻolelo of the place.

Who is leading this event?

Kimeona Kane from 808 Cleanups added this event to the organization’s calendar for my birthday and will be leading our efforts for the day. He’s become such a kind and gracious friend and teacher over the years, and I’m excited for you all to meet him!

Note that because this is a public event, there may be some folks joining in addition to our group.

Please sign the 808 Cleanups Waiver here prior to the 21st.

What do I wear?

Comfy & sturdy shoes (work boots or hiking boots are great, but sneakers are also fine). Clothes that you can move and sweat in, like workout attire or hiking pants. I typically wear workout shorts, a t-shirt, and hiking boots.

What else do I need to bring?

Water, sun protection if you need it, and a positive attitude.

Can I bring the keiki?

Of course! Yes - all ages are welcome, but parents need to sign the waiver for them as well.

Where do I park?

Here are the coordinates of the meeting location & parking lot. Look for the brown Toyota Tacoma with the 808 Cleanups Signage on the truck parked in the dirt parking area oceanside for Erma’s / Alan Davis / Left Point.

Take the paved driveway down from the highway into the dirt parking area surrounded by boulders. SEE BELOW for additional parking info.

What if I need to pee?

You can water a tree :). There are no restrooms at this site. The nearest restroom is a half mile down the road at Sandy Beach Park. So, please use the facilities there before arriving.

Will there be food?

OBVI! I plan to tailgate after our volunteer time is pau, and will have pupus and drinks for everyone.

It’s a school night, so no pressure to stick around, but please do bring chairs or something to sit on if you wish to join!

What if it rains?

Then we get wet!

Jokes aside, in the event of severe weather, we’ll postpone or cancel. Otherwise, please bring a raincoat or jacket.

What do you want for your birthday?

YOU.

Your presence is all I want as a present.

Seriously!

Parking

The lot is not paved and is filled with several large pōhaku / stones, if you have a low-profile car please exercise caution while driving through the lot, park at the entrance, or park at Sandy’s and walk/carpool over (see photos for reference).

I’m SO excited to celebrate with you!
